Why hail changes the order
Roof Maxx is for shingles that are unbroken and in good condition, and it isn't designed to fix broken shingles or seal leaks. Hail bruises and cracks shingles, so a roof that just took hail needs an inspection before anything else.
Hail isn't rare here. The Illinois State Water Survey puts the state's average at about 2 to 2.5 hail days a year, and NOAA recorded hail up to 2 inches at Mahomet on May 20, 2025.
What to do, in order
After a storm:
- Look from the ground for missing shingles, dented gutters or debris. Stay off the roof.
- Book a documented inspection. We photograph any damage and write it up.
- If there's damage worth claiming, that report goes to your insurance adjuster.
- Once repairs are done, unbroken shingles can still be treated with Roof Maxx.
When treatment still makes sense
Light hail may leave most shingles intact. If the damage is limited and repaired, treatment can still add years to the rest of the roof. If it's widespread, replacement, and possibly a claim, is the better route.
